Bermaz Motor in Glenmarie has something in store that is brand new and yet to launch here in Malaysia. You however would just walk pass it without noticing, which we did. Well, that’s because it looks exactly the same as before. It is the facelifted Mazda6 2.0L SkyActiv Sedan!
When the updated Mazda6 made its world debut end of last year, we spotted mild updates on both outside and in, the 2.5L variant however gets most of the exterior updates. Which is said to have arrived and clearing customs at the port as we speak. This 2.0L Sedan that we stumbled upon has little change on the exterior. The only update is the new headlights and foglamps. You’ll see more differences on the 2.5L.
The interior however gets a full rework. It’s fitted with the latest MZD Connect system, the screen is where it’s supposed to be but unlike the Mazda3‘s, the screen now is fitted nicely on the dash. More posh. More solid. Next to it is the Engine Start/Stop button, which has been moved up.
Leather wrapped upholsteries are now in classy dark brown except for the seats. The highlight accent on the dash panel now features this new leather instead of plastic. Climate control dials and buttons get a new arrangement.
Moving downwards to the center console, you get 3 new gadgets: MZD Connect Commander control dial that you get in the Mazda3, the same Sport rocker button from the newly launched Mazda2, and electronic parking brake button. The 2.5L variant gets head-up display by the way. Just like Mazda2’s.
Powerplants under the hood remain as before: 2.0-liter and 2.5-liter SkyActiv-G producing 153hp, 200Nm and 185hp, 250Nm respectively. Both with the same 6-speed SkyActiv-Drive transmission.
We have also gotten hold of the confirmed price list for the full range of new Mazda6. The price of the new 2.0L Sedan is now RM4,000 more at RM159,158. While the 2.5L Sedan is priced at RM194,647, that’s RM10,000 more. Joining in the party soon is the Mazda6 2.5L Touring at RM198,647, RM10,000 more than before.
We should be expecting Bermaz Motor to announce the official arrival of the new Mazda6 line-up. No fancy launch gambit.
